2023 Winewise Championships - Paper Mache Nero d'Avola awarded Best Italian Red Variety
The Winewise Championship is the only wine show in Australia where entry is by invitation only. To be invited a wine needs to be awarded a gold medal from a national wine show. At the 2022 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, Paper Mache Nero d'Avola was awarded gold and then went on to win the 2023 Winewise Championship (Best Italian Variety Wine). This means "we have beaten the best of the best", says Byron.
The grapes used in the Paper Mache brand are predominantly sourced from Ricca Terra Farms in Barmera, South Australia's Riverland.
In addition to producing its own wine brand, the Wacky Grape Wine Company produces keg and buyer-own-brand wines plus has an established distribution business that operates throughout Adelaide and regional areas.
Wine brands represented by Wacky Grape Wine Company include Barossa based Quin Wines, whose winemaker, Andrew Quin, was awarded the 2022 Jimmy Watson Trophy. Acclaimed wine show judge, Len Evans Dux (2007) and owner of Bellwether Wines, Sue Bell, has also joined the team. Ricca Terra Vintners brands, 22 Degree Halo and Terra do Rio, fill out the wines on offer from Wacky Grapes.
